We’ve been busy here raising some rescued kittens born to semi-feral and stray mothers, getting the adults spayed and neutered, and bottle feeding three litters. We’ve now found homes for all the kittens, and we’re keeping two. We’re very happy about this. But I sure wish there were never any homeless cats.
Taking in feral cats is a great thing to do. Rachel, who is long gone, was wandering around the house, practically starved, when we took him (yes, him) in. He was around 17 years. Sabrina was born in a neighbor’s garage. She was with me for more than 21 years. And yes, both were indoor cats.
Eric – I think rescued cats are the best pets. Emily was with us until she was about 19, we think. She had been through a lot but seemed to be happier and more at peace as time went by, during her years with us. She rarely wanted to go outside after surviving out there on her own for a while. Raven seems grateful to have a home again, too, only his response to going hungry for a while has been to become the best hunter in the neighborhood. He insists on getting to do that.
These kittens didn’t have to survive on their own for any length of time, thank goodness, since they were so young and still with their mothers when we found them. We’re hoping they’ll all find homes where they’ll be loved and get to be indoors and have long, fun, pampered lives.
